inside seam on double wide

We want to wrap the center with wood because the original is warping and it looks like it was wrapped with a paneling of some kind. It is a 1989 Oak Creek double wide that has been well taken care of inside and out and updated inside and out. But the center beam is nasty. Will it hold 1 inch pine boarding that we will paint. Is there enough to carry the weight on the ceiling?
